A couple Sundays ago, I was still in South Korea and on a mountain side with some friends doing a little Detecting. I dug a huge first for me. It is the grip and back plate to a Browning M1919 machine gun. There were other things dug that day, but that was a pretty cool find. I didn’t even try to bring it home in my luggage. I went to the local Air Force Base and mailed it home. I want to take the rust off of it but don’t want to ruin the brown Bakelite grips. I could use vinegar, but the process to neutralize it can be a pain. So this time I’m using lemon juice. Here is a before pic of what I’m dealing with. At the time of this post, I’ve had it soaking for about 3 hours and have taken it out and scrubbed it with a stiff plastic bristle brush. So far, I like what I’m seeing.
